There are repairs and few chip on the rim. But it can not be helped. because this is a really old item. And I think that it is not a problem for use.
AGE : Over 300 yeas ago. It is the early Edo period.
This is the old original. This is never an imitation.
MATERIAL : Pottery of Karatsu-yaki of KIHARA-KARATSU.
KARATSU-yaki is the pottery made in Hizen area, Japan. Hizen area is current Saga Prefecture. Its origin is a late 16th century. At the time, potters of Karatsu learned the technique from the Koreans. Therefore the many Karatsu techniques are similar to the Korean pottery. In the tea bowl, it is one of the pottery that tea masters are most loving.
About kiln of Karatsu.
Some pottery kilns existed in then Karatsu. The most of it was burning a pottery. There was few kiln which was burning the blue-and-white porcelain in among them. For example, KIHARA-GAMA kiln is famous. That is the kiln that existed in early stages of the Edo period (the 1600s). The real Karatsu ware of KIHARA-GAMA is very popular because it is rare.

This has an old, wonderful atmosphere. Such a work, tone and pattern are the typical features of KIHARA-KARATSU. This is the serious and really old tea bowl of KIHARA-KARATSU pottery.
