Judge Tuck (1809-1884) served in the Maryland Court of Appeals from 1851 to 1861. He served in the House of Delegates, Prince George’s County (1836-1843), and was Speaker of the House of Delegates in 1837. He was also Director of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, President of First National Bank of Annapolis, and member of Board of Governors and Visitors of St. John’s College.The

owned several slaves in the town of Bladensburg, in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Slaves made up about 58% of the county, as there were several tobacco plantations located here. A fascinating historical artifact from the Antebellum era!

Dear Sir,
I am sorry to trouble you with a few lines concerning my business. Please let me know immediately if you have wrote to Mr. McSeana concerning my man George, as I am making up my servants cloth[e]s I would like to know what arrangements you have made, as you are the only one I can call upon. You will please not fail in concerning to see me time of court as I wish to see you on business of importance. Give my respects to Mrs. Tuck and family. I hope this will find you all well. Please do not disappointed me,

The letter remains in good condition, showing signs of age. A couple words are illegibly and intentionally smudged by the author. Flatted folds from being mailed. Some of these folds show stress and and splits. Age toning is scattered darker discoloration. Please see the pictures for more detail.
